MSCCN in conjunction with Fort Campbell’s Army Community Services and the Officers' Spouse Club hosted an all-day event for all their military spouses. It involved the A to Z’s in employment opportunities, job readiness, and job placement tips. 122 spouses were coached on effective interview techniques, writing a functional resume, the pros and cons of furthering education before joining the workforce, dressing for success and other pertinent topics that specifically addressed issues faced by military spouses considering or seeking employment.

There was time for camaraderie, relationship building, and a relaxing surprise or two!

“Our spouses at Fort Campbell have gone through multiple deployment situations and they’re weary,” said Marie McConville, spouse of General McConville at Ft. Campbell. “I wanted to provide a little hope and joy if just for one day.”

Deb Kloeppel was asked to keynote on the importance of relating volunteer experience into work skills that attract corporate job opportunities. Her presentation was titled "From Volunteer to Career”.

MSCCN was honored to co-host the Volunteer Appreciation Event! Feedback from the attendees gave MSCCN 92% of the highest score available. Attendees also suggested expanding the event to two days - they wanted to hear more!

We extend our sincere gratitude to those organizations who helped to underwrite the expenses associated with this type of event - lunches, gift bags, door prizes, brochures and handouts.

Bromberg family A message from Deb Kloeppel about Ft Bliss.

Recently I had the pleasure to meet Mrs. Glenda Bromberg, wife of General Howard B. Bromberg, Fort Bliss Commanding General. "Ft. Bliss is truly blessed to have this remarkable woman in their corner; she gives 100% of herself and her services to the betterment of military families, no matter where she is stationed," said Kloeppel. "Mrs. Glenda Bromberg has such a wonderful and immediate sense of self. She works hard to balance her military life, kids, command structure, and community."

The MSCCN is very particular to select only the highest caliber of character, as we select leaders of industry, spouse initiatives, and military family programs to showcase within our website and Military Spouse Employment Journal (MSEJ) publication: link to MSEJ.

Mrs. Glenda Bromberg exemplifies the magnificent support system that leadership couples provide to the military families where they're assigned, and in this case, to all who call Ft. Bliss home."

MSCCN encourages everyone to read Mrs. Bromberg's answers to three questions we forwarded to her.

Deb Kloeppel with Linda Lankosz MSCCN's Deb Kloeppel with Linda Lankosz, Air Force Spouse Employment Director in Charleston, SC

“I told the crowd of over 100 to understand the pecking order of importance, regarding their resumes. Resumes are the fifth most important document in a person’s entire life cycle.” said Kloeppel.

“Think about that for a moment: a birth certificate, Social Security card, driver's license, passport, and resume are the top five documents of your entire life cycle. Yet many applicants refuse to update and revise old resumes, much less create multiple resumes outlining specific skills for specific job types," she continued.

When developing your resume, Kloeppel suggests you think in these terms:
  • Your birth certificate tells the world you’ve arrived
  • Your Social Security card tells the world you're ready to work
  • Your drivers license gets you to work
  • Your passport allows you to work internationally
  • Your resume determines the type of work you’ll obtain AND determines how balanced your work life will be.
Why then is the resume considered homework? A resume is your employment calling card and your ONLY chance to get your foot in the door when competing for a job you truly want and deserve.
